30th September 2020

With technology advancing every single day the choice of platforms to start sharing your content has never been so wide as it is at this very moment in time. That is great news for you but what is the best platform to start a blog?

Well that really depends on the objective that you are planning to achieve as all the options are not equal by any stretch of the imagination.

Best Platform To Start A Blog

There are many free blogging platforms along with some which require a very modest investment and they all have different functionality. Some are very simple and leverage the platform that they sit upon and there are others where you can build professional looking blogs that have all the bells and whistles that you could possibly imagine and want.

With that said I would consider the main benefit for any kind of blogging is to create a tribe that follow you, listen to what you say, can get to know you as a person and what you stand for. A blog is a great platform to build relationships with people so that they know, like and trust you and once you have this foundation in place you are perfectly positioned to make an impact on your audience's lives. This should be in the forefront of your mind, the ability to add value to anyone who takes the time to read your content. If you look at it like this you can see just how much power you have at the end of your fingertips.

My objective for this article is to share with you some of these platforms and show you how easy it is for you to publish your message to the world wide web.

It is also my objective to share with you what in my opinion is the best platform to start a blog and to assist you by providing training resources so that you can get the most benefit from it.

Best Platform To Start A Blog – Define What You Want To Achieve With Your Blogging

goalSo you have this idea to start a blog but what do you want to achieve from your blog?

Many people look at blogging as a way to create a virtual journal of their lives instead of just putting pen to paper with no one else seeing it. In many respects the first blogging platforms were set up with this in mind.

Google’s Blogger platform is a great example of a simple yet effective way to create simple, unique and beautiful blogs so that you can publish everything about your passions in your own way.

Blogger is a blog-publishing service that allows multi-user blogs with time-stamped entries. It was developed by Pyra Labs, which was bought by Google in 2003. The blogs are hosted by Google and generally accessed from a subdomain of Wikipedia

Best Platform To Start A Blog – Social Media Blog Benefits

If you are looking to make regular updates on your own personal status or the status of world events which has a quick impact, then social media is a perfect platform for you to post on. At the end of the day you are posting content for people to consume which can add value to them, so it doesn’t matter if it is just a few sentences as it can pack a punch.

You may want to go all in and create a home blogging business which is designed to give you a full or part time income. Here you would need to look at more advanced options so that you have the full functionality to create the foundation that your home business sits upon.

What I will do now is go over briefly some of the options that you have available to you. This will enable you to decide which option will suit your needs the best.

Best Platform To Start A Blog – Hobby Blogging Platforms

Mark why do you refer to them as hobby blogging platforms? Great question... well, there is a saying “that you get what you pay for” and the platforms I am going to refer to are all free platforms, at least at the basic format.

With all these free options you have limited options on what you can. Your content is hosted on their platforms and you are at their mercy all the time. Saying that though they are incredibly easy to use because the common feature is that they have many drag and drop features.

This means you can insert your content very easily through the built-in editors and require no coding skills whatsoever. They provide many different themes that you can easily install, and you could be set up in a matter of a couple of hours.

Best Platform To Start A Blog – Blogger Blog Benefits

The first platform is Google’s Blogger platform (, which I mentioned earlier. This platform is linked to your Google account. It is very accessible and you could start one right now. I think this is a great option for anyone who wants a simple blog and it is free.

The downside to Blogger, in my opinion, is that the design options are limited and they are lower quality than the paid for options. Also you are at Google’s mercy and they could suspend your account at anytime if you go against their terms of service. What if they take down the whole platform? well, then you are screwed because you have no control.

The next option is and should not be compared to like Blogger is very easy to set up but does come with limitations to grow your blog. It is free to use but does command fees if you need more storage or if you want your own custom domain. doesn’t allow advertisements on your blog so if you are looking to create a business then this is not the option for you.

Like Google WordPress can suspend your account if you violate their terms of service so again you are not in control.

Best Platform To Start A Blog – Micro Blogging Platforms

twitter facebookI am going to make this as simple as possible for you and suggest two options that are incredibly powerful. The first is Twitter which is the stereotypic micro blogging platform because you are limited to the number of characters you can use. They have become more generous though because now they allow you 280 characters instead of the original 140 when they first appeared on the scene.

So if you have a following and want to get the word out quickly then you can “tweet” your post to your followers who then have the ability to “re-tweet” it causing a viral effect. Anyone can have a Twitter account so if you haven’t got one then go over to their site, create an account and start blogging or tweeting.

The other platform is Facebook and I can hear you saying “Facebook, a blogging platform Mark?” Well yes, it is because you can post content on your personal profiles and any business pages or groups that you set up. Remember I said earlier that one of the main benefits to blogging is to create a tribe, well what better place to create your own tribe than somewhere that has billions of registered users. Then you can post or micro-blog to them to your hearts content.

These two options are free to set up and post content on but again you are at their beck and call so you must abide by their rules. Therefore you are not 100% in control. My next option is were you are in total control

Best Platform To Start A Blog – And My Recommended Blogging Platform is the most powerful blogging platform out there because you have total control over every aspect of your website. You can grow your website over time by adding many features such as E-commerce stores, membership areas, forums and monetize it to the full extent. Therefore you have the opportunity to create a sustainable business working from home. There are thousands of plugins that you can add to transform the functionality of your website along with having a built-in blog facility so that you can add as much content as you like. sites are search engine friendly and tend to be ranked higher than some of the free options that have less features. There will be some monetary investment though but don’t worry it won’t break the bank.

You will need a domain name which costs around $10, then you will need a website hosting account through a third-party company which is around $10-15 per month. The beauty of this is that you have control of your website as you are buying space on independent servers and not reliant on Google and social media platforms who monitor what you do.

Once you have this in place you can create stunning websites with much more functionality even if you just want a personal blog or an asset to earn an income from. The only caveat to this option is that you will find that your learning curve will be somewhat extended as you will need to learn some skills sets to pull everything together but because of the type of guy I am I have you covered.
